TOOTS & THE MAYTALS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From their first album, released in 1964 Never Grow Old to singles like “Sweet and Dandy” that was included on The Harder They Come soundtrack, to the classic 1970\u2019s albums Funky Kingston and Reggae Got Soul, Toots and the Maytals have established reggae as the heartbeat of Jamaica with its influences from American Soul music and classic Rhythm and Blues combined with the syncopated one-drop rhythmic sounds of ska, rocksteady and roots reggae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toots and the Maytals released the single \u201cDo the Reggay\u201d in 1968 that represented the first song to use the word reggae, naming the unique genre from Jamaica and introducing it to a global audience. Toots Hibbert, leader of the group was named one of the \u201c100 Greatest Singers\u201d by Rolling Stone magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2004, the group released True Love, an album of re-recorded versions of their earlier hits in collaboration with fellow musicians including Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Trey Anastasio, No Doubt, Ben Harper, the Roots, and Shaggy. The True Love album won the Grammy Award that year for best reggae album. The 2012 live album Unplugged on Strawberry Hill gained Hibbert his fifth Grammy nomination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2015, Vogue listed the song “54-46 Was My Number” by Toots and the Maytals as one of their “15 Roots Reggae Songs You Should Know\u201d, In 2017 Toots and the Maytals played Coachella Fest and a series of festival dates including Sierra Nevada World Music Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toots and the Maytals last performed in the Humboldt County area at Reggae on the River\u2122 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Touring extensively over the past 5 years with performances on some of the most prestigious  Reggae stages around the world and aided by his band the Bebble Rockers band; he has brought his message and power to tens of thousands of people in North America, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean. Hitting stages such as \u201cReggae on the River\u201d (US), Rebel Salute (JA), Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (US), \u201cRototom Sunsplash\u201d (Spain), Musa (Portugal), SummerJam (Germany), Reggae Sumfest (JA), Reggae Sundance (NE), Reggae Sun Ska Festival (FRA), South by South West (US), BoomTown (UK) as well as headlining multiple 20+ multi-city club tours; Kabaka is well known for delivering an electrifying and entertaining live performance. Kabaka Pyramid toured as the support act in the United States on the \u201cStony Hill\u201d tour with Damian Jr. Gong Marley receiving critical acclaim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the global success of his impactful hit single “Well Done” in 2015; Kabaka released his “Accurate” mixtape presented by music superpower Major Lazer and Walshy Fire to tremendous reception with the mixtape proving to be an instant classic amongst reggae\/hiphop fans. In 2017 he topped the Global Reggae Charts with the anthem \u201cCan\u2019t Breathe\u201d the first single from his debut full length album: Contraband. The project was executive produced by Damian \u201cJr Gong\u201d Marley and is a joint release with Bebble Rock Music and Ghetto Youths International.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
