Job Description

Hourly Wage DOE

Begin at 5 hours a week, but usually will be 20 – 30 hours a week when we’re able to have events. Position is eligible for overtime during specific festivals and events. 

The Mateel Community Center is a 501c3 non-profit in Redway, CA, promotes a cultural and social vision for the community emphasizing the performing and visual arts. It is a membership-based organization, whose members elect the nine-member Board of Directors. The MCC operates an 800-person capacity venue in Southern Humboldt County, offering theatre, music and a diverse portfolio of cultural and community events, and produces the internationally-acclaimed festival Reggae on the River. 

We are seeking an extraordinary person to serve as our General Manager. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the administration and/or operations of non-profit organizations, and with the unique character of the Southern Humboldt community. We seek an individual with strong leadership skills and experience in fundraising, festivals or community organizing. We especially seek someone who is committed to working to support a team-based staff structure .

The General Manager will assist the Board of Directors in developing organizational policies and be responsible for their implementation, oversee staff, manage all personnel issues, including evaluation of new hires, prepare operating budgets in consultation with the Board, and track the organization’s financial performance. The GM will be the Mateel’s chief spokesperson to the community, representing the Mateel in its dealings with the public, government agencies, foundations and other non-profit organizations.  The GM will work with the Board to develop and track strategic planning for the Mateel.

The GM will manage fundraising for the organization, including administration of the Summer Arts and Music Festival and Reggae on the River. S/he will oversee the potential moves of these two events to new locations, including community scoping and working with County and other government agencies to implement the changes. S/he will also be responsible for overseeing or writing grants to fund programs and projects at the Mateel, as well as developing sponsorships for various events in conjunction with MCC’s sponsorship coordinator.
