Mateel Community Center Opened to Fire Evacuees

No Comments Current News

The Mateel Community Center welcomes fire evacuees to take shelter in the hall.  Beginning Wednesday, September 9th, the hall doors are open for those evacuating from fires. The Mateel Community Center is located at 59 Rusk Lane in Redway, CA 95560. Small pets are welcome with leashes outside the hall, no pets are allowed inside the hall due to potential allergy reactions for some individuals.  Evacuees are asked to provide their name and address.

We have coffee, food (for people and pets), water, bathrooms, bedding, and toiletries. Evacuees can charge their phones and access power in the hall. There is ample tent camping to respect social distancing. We currently have plenty of indoor space (with social distancing) and space for car camping. Indoor and car space may become limited in the future, but plenty for now. Masks are required while indoors (provided if needed) and we ask that folks maintain social distance at all times. Drug and alcohol consumption is not allowed and please no weapons. Garberville is under evacuation warning and everyone here should be ready if needed. The Mateel number is 707-923-3368.

Update, September 16th: The Mateel remains a fire evacuation center as the Humboldt County area is now under local emergency declaration.
